Presenter John Lonsdale will showcase an array of unusual and beautiful woodland plants from his USDA zone 6b garden in Exton, PA, including Trillium, Galanthus, Cyclamen, Corydalis, and native azaleas. Explore how these plants thrive in various garden habitats, from dry shade to moist, sunlit woodland edges, with insights into optimal conditions and propagation techniques. John will also discuss his innovative bog gardens, created to support species that often struggle in traditional settings.

About our guest presenter: John Lonsdale gardens at “Edgewood,” located 35 miles west of Philadelphia in Exton, Pennsylvania. With over 40 years of experience cultivating alpine and woodland plants and bulbs, he has earned numerous accolades, including the Alpine Garden Society Gold Merit Medal. A passionate plant enthusiast, John has traveled extensively to study plants in their natural habitats, particularly Trillium in the southeastern United States. He is a prolific writer, contributing articles to various horticultural society publications, and a sought-after speaker. His website, Edgewood Gardens, features more than 20,000 images of plants thriving in his garden. Additionally, he contributed a chapter on Cyclamen in North America to The Genus Cyclamen in Science, Cultivation, Art and Culture, published by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Holding a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, John dedicated over 35 years to biomedical research before embarking on a unique second career as a school bus driver.
